Ramadhan is a month of training and preparation to restart life in a disciplined manner. This Holy month came like seasonal rain and passed by. However, the rain did not water the plants and crops – it overwhelmed upon the hearts of believers. During this month, we have observed the fast on a daily basis for the sake of Allah (swt). The fast schedules our daily activities. We got the regular training of moral development, good conduct and spiritual enrichment. Ramadhan had fanned the dying spark of charity among us. It had kindled the fading spirit of tolerance, patience and sympathy for the less fortunate. Now, as we had celebrated Eid uL Fitr a few days ago, it is the time to introspect, whether we have adapted ourselves as per the training of Ramadhan or it was just a dream. Our life after Ramadhan will decide whether we really fast as required by Allah (swt) or we were just on Hunger Strike.
It is a bitter truth that the hearts of a huge number of Muslims are stricken with spiritual famine even after fasting this holy month. We are witnessing the empty masjids, which were full with believers during Ramadhan. The concept of sharing and tolerance remain aliens among us after Ramadhan. The Quran remains in a velvet cover on the highest shelf for the 11 months following Ramadan. Do we have a feeling that we have done a lot in the past month? We need to remember the words of Imam Ghazali ‘Our heart should be like a pendulum – swinging to and fro, praying and hoping that our worship was accepted. If we were able to achieve some goals, it wasn’t because of our strength, but rather the Bounty of Allah (swt), Who gave us the opportunity, willingness, and ability to do so. Without all three, we would not have been able to reap any benefits of Ramadan.’
Our Ramadan training course is meant to ensure that we stay to our manual – the Quran- throughout the year. We should be not just Friday or Sunday worshippers. Consider Ramadan as the down payment on our house. Regardless of how hefty the down payment may be – if we fail to keep up with regular monthly instalments for several years, our house can be taken away from us. We need to strengthen the relationship we established with our Rabb, the Quran, and the community during this spiritual month. We shall be among the great losers and unfortunate persons if we say good-bye to the Masjid after the Eid prayers.
Besides this, the holy month of Ramadhan taught us to know and manage oneself, live a life in the service of others, practice self-control, make good routine a habit, develop self-confidence and self-esteem, be exemplary, Create the better environment for change and develop “Yes we can!” attitude.
Let us add some stabilizers to our Ramadan Ibadah to make the rewards last throughout the year.
